Chasing the Light: My Experience with the Fujifilm 50-140mm f2.8

We’ve had a deluge of rain and shine, a total mix of weather this spring in London!

Two weeks ago, after a rainy day, I found myself staring out the window at 6pm, contemplating whether or not I should head out for a photo shoot. Despite the lingering rain, I followed my gut feeling and decided to take a chance. And boy, am I glad I did!

Armed with my trusty Fujifilm X-H2S camera, I had rented out a 50-140mm f2.8 lens, known for its incredible sharpness. I must admit, the lens was heavy, but I was determined to capture some amazing shots. I edited my photos in Capture One, my go-to post-processing software.

I have always preferred using cameras over phones when it comes to photography. There is a certain feeling that comes with shooting with a camera that just can't be replicated with a phone. The process of shooting and post-editing puts me in a zen-like state that I never quite achieve with phone snaps. And the quality of the photos speaks for itself - phones just can't compare to the level of detail that cameras can achieve.

If you're interested in trying out some Fujifilm gear before making a purchase, the company offers a free rental program in the UK called Fujifilm Connect Loan. I took advantage of this program and rented the 50-140mm lens for the long weekend. It was well worth it, as the sharpness of the lens was simply stunning.

During my photo shoot, I captured scenes along the southern river bank, including shots around Blackfriars station, Southwark, and Canon Street Bridges. I even managed to snap a photo of the RNLI crew racing across the Thames during a beautiful blue hour while riding the Clipper.

Overall, I do this mostly for my own enjoyment, but I also appreciate it when others enjoy my work as well. Photography is such a relaxing hobby that allows you to see the world through your own unique perspective. And with the abundance of opportunities out there, there's always something new to capture.

Looking back on the photos from that day, I am amazed at how the sun came out and lit up the scenes so beautifully. And the sharpness of the 50-140mm lens never ceases to amaze me. I highly recommend giving it a try, but be warned - it's quite heavy! After two hours of walking around, my arms were definitely feeling the weight.

So go ahead, pick up your camera and get shooting again. Whether it's just for yourself or to share with the world, photography is a wonderful way to appreciate the beauty in our surroundings.
